A previously unreleased Amy Winehouse collaboration with Nas will be featured on Life Is Good, the new album release from NAS slated to be release on July 17th which is exactly one week prior to the one year anniversary of Amy Winehouse’s death..

Winehouse, who passed away almost a year ago was first introduced to NAS by producer Salaam Remi who was a mutual friend.

Although an extremely talented artist, Winehouse publicly suffered through numerous bouts of drug addiction, namely crack cocaine as well as alcohol addiction throughout her young life and career. Shortly before her death, she was booed offstage.  Her addiction had such a stronghold on her that she appeared completely out of it and reportedly did not know what city she was in, the lyrics to her songs or the names of members in her band. When news spread that Amy Winehouse passed away on July 23, 2011  at much too young age of  27 from alcoholic poisoning, although the world and music community responded with a huge outpouring of heartfelt condolences, her death was really no surprise

This is not the first time that Winehouse and Nas have worked together. There was a previous Amy Winehouse collaboration with NAS when they recorded Like Smoke together.  That was included on Lioness: Hidden Treasures, the first of what I’m sure will be many released posthumously featuring the legendary award winning artist..

According to WENN.com, in the chorus of the Amy Winehouse collaboration with Nas Cherry Wine, Winehouse sings, “Where is he/the man who is just like me/I heard he was hiding/somewhere I can’t see.
“‘I’m alone/and I realize that when I get home/I want to go to my red and my cherry.”

Nas was sure that he if he wanted to include the song on his album.  he said,

Part of me didn’t want to do the song… Amy and I share a birthday, so she was my sister. And she was just so much fun to be around. She would say things about well-known people in the industry that she didn’t like and it would just crack me up… We were all hoping she would pull through and come back.

He ultimately decided to include the track on Life is Good.  Speaking to NME, Nas said the track ‘Cherry Wine’ came from “God, and Amy”. Asked if Salaam Remi had the track from their recording sessions, Nas said,

Yeah, Salaam worked on her last album, and they were working. We don’t even have an explanation for how it happened. It was just magic. It just happened. It was supposed to happen. She made it happen.

The Amy Winehouse collaboration with Nas will be released on July 17th.
