Is American Idol done?
Is American Idol done?? Pretty much. Even if the show is not cancelled, for all intents and purposes, American Idol is done. Kaput
We were all so used to the original crew. They kind of grew on you! Simon Cowell is in a league of his own. Love him or hate him, Simon Cowell, had a certain kind of appeal with his British arrogance. Paula Abdul was just a hoot, especially when she appeared drugged out or drunk. (everything is beautiful) And Randy Jackson was simply more fun back then!
Of course things change. That’s life. After trying their hand at guest judges during the audition phases, think Victoria Beckam – we liked her better when she didn’t smile, right! They even snagged Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi but still American Idol was sliding down a backward bath.
And then…. a completely new cast for American Idol. Yeah, yeah – I know Randy Jackson stayed but he changed, became a bit too serious and, since he was the only “original” left, tried to assume the Simon role which simply doesn’t work with his personality.
You know what – the show picked up. I even started watching again. Ditto for some folks I know. Even though it was a different feel, it was good.
And now the fun begins. Negotiations!
Jennifer Lopez better known as JLo used American Idol as a platform to help get her sagging career back on track. It was very likely that part of her contract included having her perform on Idol too. And it worked big time. That woman is HOT! And making bank. So now, with younger beau, Caspar Smart, it’s still up in the air if she will come back. Idol will have to pay her big time $’s and with their ratings sliding, that might not be possible.
Steve Tyler is said to be mulling it over whether he will return and waiting to see what the others do. He’s good too but his body language at time shows he’s not too happy so I’d say he’s still on the fence.
Even Randy Jackson is still deciding to see who the new crew will be before he decides. Although he’s an “original”, he wasn’t being paid as much as the others and that’s gotta be irritating him – although he’s far from the poor house.
So who will the new judges be? I mentioned Katy Perry as a possible judge for X-Factor when they were looking. She’d be great. She’s smart, popular and seems to be able to stand on her two feet. Miley Cyrus and Adam Lambert are in the mix too.
What do you think will happen? Who do you think will be the next crew of judges?
In any case, you have to admit, American Idol had a great run.
