Is Justin Bieber another young celebrity touched by the entitlement curse?
When the story first broke about Justin Bieber allegedly roughing up a photographer and that authorities wanted to speak to him, I thought it was laughable and pretty much dismissed it however now I am not so sure. Success can change someone and not always for the better. The youngish celebrity’s seem to be the most susceptible so it does make you wonder. Is Justin Bieber another young celebrity touched by the entitlement curse?
The “entitlement curse” takes on many forms. The common denominator is that it is something that can affect all celebrities regardless of their age. The younger ones don’t have enough life experience behind them so when they become hugely popular and have to live within the confines of super-stardom things can and do change and many do not handle it too well.
They develop a very skewed sense of reality. And because they have so much money and resources behind them coupled with a entourage of enablers, they can afford to indulge their fantasies which ultimately gets mixed with “their reality”. The results can be very troubling.
So is Justin Bieber another young celebrity touched by the entitlement curse? The answer is quite possibly yes.
I know it’s hard to for most people to conjure up images of “The Biebs”, the squeaky clean Canadian boyish pop icon megastar, who still looks 12, roughing up anyone. I mean the kid with the best marketing team in the world actually getting in trouble. Wanted for questioning by authorities! Oh my. The guy, who was discovered by Ellen and appears everywhere. That kid! Could it be true? Is Justin Bieber another young celebrity touched by the entitlement curse?
Why yes that kid indeed, The kid who counts Chris Brown, of all people, among his friends. Remember Brown, he didn’t even serve any jail time for beating the crap out of Rihanna.
The kid who walked into the ring as part of the entourage with Floyd Mayweather, for his most recent bout. If you live in Vegas, we all know what a “great” guy Mayweather is. He’s been involved in numerous skirmishes with the law yet hasn’t served any recent jail time. Classic case of entitlement.

The kid who now wants to be “grown up”.
The kid who now has a hit with his half-rap song Boyfriend might now actually fancy himself as “a tough guy” and his altered sense of reality might actually have him believing it.. The kid who get’s gifted with a rare Fisker Karma car and then spends an enormous amount of cash “chroming it up” Here’s a photo of the “blinding” car.
Bieber is quite intelligent, however he does not live in what I like to call, “the real world”. Bieber lives in an insulated world where he is surrounded by handlers who placate him and cater to his every whim. That is what goes along with celebrity territory and I’m sure it’s a great perk. It’s all about how you handle it.
Here’s an example. In the past , he has said he is a “pretty good boxer”. Well, all he has to do is have a handler contact Mayweather and bam, he’s in the ring. So he very well might fancy himself as a “tough guy”
Notice how Bieber didn’t even really address the situation that authorities want to question him. In a vague reference to it, he did tweet, “my fans have always been there. from day 1. they are there for me thru everything. they lift me up. so…im there for them. always. #FACT“. Then he just hops on a plane out of the country. That’s a classic sign of the “entitlement curse” Ignore the situation and hope it will go away because “it doesn’t apply to me”. The sad thing is many times the matter does indeed get swept under the rug, which then feeds in to the altered reality and it goes on and on and then repeats itself.
Look in all fairness, the incident might not be as bad as it is being played out. Bieber was with his girlfriend, Selena Gomez, and allegedly tussled with a photographer. Seriously, whether he believes that he is a “pretty good fighter” or not, I question that even if it’s true, how much damage could he really do? There was allegedly a lawyer at the scene who advised the photographer to seek medical attention. Why the heck was an attorney was there? Sounds akin to an ambulance chaser.
Still it does make you wonder. Is Justin Bieber another young celebrity touched by the entitlement curse?
The Biebs better watch out. He doesn’t want to end up like young almost has beens Linday Lohan or worse yet, Paris Hilton or yikes, Miley Cyrus.
