Weight Watchers signs Jessica Simpson

After gaining a  tremendous amount of weight during her pregnancy, news has leaked that Weight Watchers signs Jessica Simpson on as their spokesperson for a whopping $4 million.

Simpson confirmed the rumors on her facebook page yesterday and gushed,

It’s official, I’m joining Weight Watchers! The cool thing about the program is that it focuses on healthy habits for the long-term (and I can still indulge in my guilty pleasures every now and then too). I have actually gotten a group of friends together who are going to be doing it with me. You can join me too and we can share our experiences!

Jessica Simpson, who in 2005 wore short-shorts and other revealing outfits for her role as sexy Daisy Duke in the remake of The Dukes of Hazzard Weight Watchers signs Jessica Simpson has seen her weight yo-yo in recent years.  She was widely criticized and subjected to a barrage of ridicule when she sported “Mom jeans” at one of her concerts. She was also criticized following the release of photos from the 2009 chili cook-off which showed a noticeable weight gain

“I was embarrassed. I didn’t want to show my face. I was touring with the Rascal Flatts at the time and had to get on stage every day and kind of just face it and hope to God I wasn’t wearing an unflattering outfit … Obviously, I didn’t look like Daisy Duke.”, she said on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show.

Simpson hasn’t been seen in public lately which likely means that she has lost some weight already and has to stay hidden until the Weight Watchers commercials she will be featured in make their debut.

Since Weight Watchers signs Jessica Simpson on as their new spokesperson will she eventually be phasing out or replacing Jennifer Hudson as the prime Weight Watchers spokesperson? Hudson, has been one of the more “believable” and perhaps even the most successful celebrity weight loss spokesperson, however you have to admit that the ads are getting a bit played out and simply do not have the wow factor that they once did.

I guess it’s out with the old and in with the new!
