Jeremy Kyle helpful or harmful? Who in the heck is Jeremy Kyle and more importantly does his harsh, in your face insulting belittling, self-righteous, pompous behavior really help the people that come on to his show.? I find it difficult to imagine why someone would willingly appear on his show
Kyle found fame as a replacement for UK daytime host Trisha Goddard in 2005 which has propelled The Jeremy Kyle Show to success. The US version of the talk show premiered in September of 2011. But do his methods work?
Today for example, there was a woman who has been of off drugs for over 8 years which is certainly admirable and no easy feat. Her daughters wanted to confront her because they are still scarred from their younger years when they witnessed her destructive behavior such as prostituting herself and shooting up heroin.
Jeremy proceeded to ream the mother and completely downplayed her successful efforts to stay clean and sober for over 8 years. Although I am sure her children suffered immensely in their childhood, perhaps they need to let go of the past and try to build a relationship with someone who did indeed change. I guess I can’t fully wrap my arms around the benefit of belittling someone that has taken and maintained steps to change their life.
I’ve also wondered about the ramifications and after effects of many of the daytime talk shows particularly when they involve cheating or abusive spouses. These shows can be explosive and ending the unhappy pair back to their homes, in many cases, together seems like a recipe for disaster although Jeremy touts the great “after care” that the show offers.
Here are some of those “disasters”
The Jeremy Kyle Show was branded a “human form of bear baiting” by a judge sentencing a man who headbutted his love rival during filming. Security guard David Staniforth, 45, shocked the studio audience of ITV1’s The Jeremy Kyle Show when he headbutted his wife’s lover, bus driver Larry Mahoney, leaving him with blood pouring from his nose. The judge went on to say, “These self-righteous individuals should be in the dock with you. They pretend there is some kind of virtue in putting out a show like this.”
Rebecca Langley
Rebecca Langley was nearly killed by her abusive boyfriend after appearing on the Jeremy Kyle show. The petite 23-year-old brunette, was left with a shattered eye socket and cheekbone and bite marks on her back after her boyfriend Jamie Juste became enraged watching the show from home when it aired. According to Rebecca, One of the counselors spent five minutes with us, and said: “Good luck, we’re going to send you home now.” They then came in and gave us our tickets home.” So much for aftercare.
In February 2008, The Jeremy Kyle Show was again criticized in court after a man who found out during the recording of a show that he was not the father of his wife’s baby later pointed an air rifle at her
Chris Lyons and his mother appeared on the show and claim that they were kept separated from each other and being fed erroneous and inflammatory information so that they would turn on each other and explode which presumably makes for better ratings.
Is the admitted former gambling addict who stole from his wife and made up lies that he was going to die which led to the disintegration of his very short marriage in 1990 the “right” person to be hosting the show. His former wife said he stole thousands from her to support his his habit, which he allegedly has now kicked. He now supposedly says he has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and licks his mobile phone to see if it’s clean. Yuk!!
Let’s hope there are no further tragedies on the show.
