It’s official, Mariah Carey named new American Idol judge.
Wow – the gorgeous, diva-licious multi-talented, singer and song writer Mariah Carey named new American Idol Judge. They actually landed her and it has surprised quite a few people.
Although, we all knew American Idol would love to secure her as the new judge, we didn’t know if they could afford her. Even hubby, Nick Cannon, had his doubts as you can see in this video of Nick Cannon.
“I am so excited to be joining ‘Idol,'” said Carey, addressing the Television Critics Association via Fox entertainment chief Kevin Reilly’s cellphone, which he put on speakerphone for the hotel ballroom meeting.
She couldn’t meet with them in person because “this kind of all just happened really quickly,” Carey said. “I can’t wait to get started in the fall … and I will see you in January.”
Carey will be an amazing judge – wonder if Jennifer Lopez is kicking herself for not coming to terms with Idol producers. As great as she was on the show, her memory on the show stands the chance of being nearly eradicated with the star power of Mariah Carey.
Carey got a one year contract with a renewable option for just under 18 million. We’re sure she got all the perks the former judges received too- – and then some. You know rights to air videos on Idol, release new songs and video and of course to perform them live for millions and millions of adoring crowds.

This makes it interesting now. Randy Jackson is Mariah Carey’s co-manager. He was instrumental in sealing the deal so that’s got to be good for him. He may very well remain at the judges table because they’ve got great chemistry that would come across well on the air. There’s been talk of Randy taking on a more of a”mentor” type role.
American Idol new judges being considered
Who will be the other American Idol judge or judges?
To tell you the truth, it doesn’t even matter at this point. Having Mariah Carey named new American Idol judge, completely changes the scope of things, She will totally eclipse any other judge so they can really get just about anyone.
