The time has come for 19 year old Selena Gomez to prove to the world that she is now a grown-up and not just a former Disney princess. How can the fresh-faced girlfriend of Justin Bieber move away from the Disney roles that made her famous? For starters, Selena Gomez sheds good girl image with her role in Spring Breakers.
Spring Breakers is the new movie starring Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson and Vanessa Hudgens. The premise is that they rob a restaurant to pay for their spring break antics. After landing in jail, they become involved with a drug and arms dealer who bails them out. James Franco stars in the film as the bad guy. The rumors over the film’s content are many with talk of lots of sex and nudity along with crime sprees and even a public urination shot. I mean it’s not spring break if someone is not urinating publicly, right?
She told MTV News, “Originally it was supposed to be this little independent that I did, to kind of just work with amazing people. But now it’s going to be everywhere, so I’m a little nervous about it.,” she added, “Honestly, it’s the right step for me, I’m really proud of it.” So Slena sheds good girl image in a juicy, rompy, part aptly named Spring Breaker.
Will Selena follow in the footsteps of the numerous other young starlets who got their start targeting the teenybopper set and then decided they needed to follow a very different path. Although they are too numerous to name, some such as Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus and the complete train wreck Lindsay Lohan felt the same way. Although they alienated their teenybopper fan base, they ultimately found success in one way or another.
Let’s hope that as Selena Gomez uses Spring Breakers to shed good girl image. that she doesn’t forget that which audience helped her soar to super stardom!
